Norway is one of the largest seafood producers in the world. The Norwegian Seafood Federation represents the majority of companies within the fisheries and aquaculture sectors.

The seafood industry represents Norway's largest export industry after oil and gas. Norway exports farmed and wild fish to more than 150 countries.

The Norwegian Seafood Federation (Fiskeri- og havbruksnæringens landsforening, FHL) represents the interests of approximately 500 member companies and 8,000 employees. FHL covers the entire value chain from fjord to dinner table in the fisheries and aquaculture sectors in Norway.

FHL is associated with the Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise (NHO), the main representative body for Norwegian employers with a current membership of over 18,500 companies ranging from small family-owned businesses to multinational companies.

FHL provides these key services:

• Promotes policies and legislation that benefit our members
• Promotes our members‘ interests in regard to exports and international arena
• Advises member companies on a wide range of issues, including
  • Health, Safety, Environment
  • Quality systems
  • Food safety
  • Trade regulations
  • Legal advice in employee matters
  • Coordinates research and development
  • Represents employers in joint negotiations

The ripple effect
Norway is uniquely blessed with a long and fertile coastline.  The sea’s abundant resources have laid the foundation for sustaining active coastal communities combining innovation with traditional culture, which allows our businesses to deliver such a range of seafood to all four corners of the world.

The fisheries and aquaculture industry is Norway’s largest export industry after oil and gas – and it’s the capable users of resources along the Norwegian coast that have made this all possible.

Norway’s seafood industry is also bound to have a tremendous impact in the future. FHL strives to ensure that the natural authorities bear this in mind when determining national priorities.
